Oldboy Globalization Analysis
The theme that I would like to discuss that was featured in the movie Oldboy is the theme of Globalization. There were many Christian symbols in the film, even though Oldboy is a Korean production. There were thematic Christian symbols all throughout the film. Oh Dae-Su and Lee Woo-Jin went to the same Catholic school. They were instructed by nuns and priests. The movie is characterized by people committing sins and then trying to atone for them in one way or another. Lee Woo-Jin has a tattoo of a cross on his butt that is visible in the second to last scene in the film. Dae Su and Mi Do pray together before Dae Su goes off to fight Lee Woo-Jin. Mi Do is later seen praying by herself as she waits for Dae Su to return. This is an example of globalization because Christianity originated in Palestine, where Jesus was born and died, and then spread to Europe.
