very opinionated opinions.

1.      Almost every single person on this Earth, except the clinically insane, knows right from wrong. That is why one may plea insanity after committing a crime. The fact that there are laws assumes that citizens will all know right from wrong. No one had to tell their children that it is not right to kill another human being. It is just knows. No matter your upbringing, your nurturing, most everyone knows what is right and what is not. That being said, one’s definition of right and wrong can vary greatly. A little girl may find that she must steal so that her family might eat for the first time in days. This is the right thing to do.  2.      There are actions that are not always morally wrong. If one kills another when they are being attacked and risk losing their own life, then that is not wrong. If one kills another because they gave them a wrong look on the subway, then that is wrong. If one steals a loaf of bread to feed their si...

Why PewDiePie is a literal legend

Comm 200 Week Two Newswriting Assignment   My favorite online journalist is PewDiePie. PewDiePie speaks to me because of his authenticity and his humor. He is perhaps most well-known for his Minecraft video series. Although I do not currently play Minecraft, I grew up with it and his videos remind me of a younger, happier Sophia in a simpler time. The life of an American tween in the early 2010s was meaningless without Minecraft. In recent years, though, the iconic game had started to go out of style. PewDiePie helped usher in a newfound appreciation for the classic game. His subscribers grew up with Minecraft, and his Minecraft video series was a huge success. The series was not only successful because of the crafting aspect, but for the humorous aspect of it as well.               PewDiePie has hilarious commentary on all of his YouTube videos. My favorite line from his Minecraft series is “He was like a father...

my biased blog post

How can one’s biases be traced back to a few influences? Is it not true that almost every media source we interact with on a daily basis helps one form opinions on just about everything, from one’s favorite restaurant to one’s stance on abortion. As a teenager living in the 21 st , media-saturated, century, I am constantly affronted with online news alerts, magazine articles, and advertisements on social media platforms, television, and billboards. In this digital age, everyone has an opinion on everything, and everyone has a Twitter account where they proclaim their opinion for the entire Interweb to see.              Many, many experiences, talk shows, overheard conversations, and rants from my father have deeply affected my biases. I have always thought that the people I care about and respect the most have the most influence on my opinions. My grandmother, for example, is one person that I have always looked up to f...

Personal Profile Comm 200

My name is Sophia Richards. I was named after my great great grandmother, Sophia Haus, who emigrated to North Dakota from Canada, and before that from Germany. I am a freshman at NDSU. I am from an absolutely tiny town an hour Northwest of Fargo. It is called Hope, and used to be a bustling railroad town in the early 1900s, but now has a population of a mere 250 people. I graduated with only eight other kids in my class. My parents met while they were both students here at NDSU. My dad picked up my mom at the library for their first date. I guess you could say that NDSU is the reason I'm even alive in the first place, and so it felt intrinsic that I went here. I am taking this class because it is required for my Strategic Communications major, but even if it wasn't required I would still take it anyways, as I need to hone my media writing skills if I want to have any sort of career related to media. My dream career is to work at a marketing firm in the Minneapolis area. I do no...
